I am a PhD Candidate in the Interdisciplinary Near and Middle Eastern Studies program at the University of Washington-Seattle. My research concerns Iranian and Iranian-American gamers who play World of Warcraft, with affect and embodiment as theoretical frameworks. The goal of this field research is to show the tangibility of online gamer communities, and more specifically, the influence of Iranian and Iranian-American women gamers in online gaming community spaces such as social media and persistent virtual worlds. By focusing on these online spaces, I will highlight the transnational dynamics and discourses of power within the US and Iranian gamer community.
